Dr. Mel Robison federal jury trial set for April

A federal judge granted permission to withdraw from  the defense team of a well-known Sayre physician being charged with over 150 alleged federal charges on January 30.

The ruling was in response to a motion to be removed filed by Ryan K. Wilson with the law firm Crowe and Dunlevy.

Wilson was allowed to withdraw because he is reportedly leaving the firm representing Dr. Melvin Robison.

However, Elizabeth A. Scott and Evan G.E. Vincent, also with Crowe and Dunlevy, are remaining on Robison’s defense team.

The federal authorities are alleging that Robison committed over 150 federal crimes, including causing five deaths through prescriptions, over 100 counts of healthcare fraud, drug conspiracy and multiple other drug charges.

On several of the counts, Robison is joined in the indictments with co-defendant Dr. Moheb Hallaba.

Hallaba, 89, submitted financial documents to the court and has successfully qualified for a public defender.

Both men were given $100,000 bonds with conditions of not leaving the United States Western Oklahoma district, as well as speaking to others involved in the case both directly or indirectly.

A jury trial is expected to begin for both men at 9 am on April 9 in a federal courthouse.

The case was also transferred last month to the Honorable Timothy D. DeGuisiti.

DeGuisiti served twenty years in the National Guard/Army Reserve and is a University of Oklahoma graduate. He was appointed to the federal bench by President George W. Bush in 2007.

Robison’s and Hallaba’s charges were announced during a nationally broadcasted press conference focusing on doctors and opiate prescriptions.
