Friends of Mark Smith put together SmithStrong fundraisers

Elk City professional sports and portrait photographer Mark Smith suffered a Hemorrhagic Stroke on Sept 30. Today he is continuing to recover with outpatient rehab under the care of his family. He is best known to be seen sitting on the sidelines of the OKC Thunder games and at local sports games during off season. 

Smith’s journey has been shared through the words of his daughter, Taylor Smith, on social media (Facebook) as well as a new page called “smithstrong: Friends of Mark Smith.” He is known for a thumbs up to Taylor and youngest daughter, Murphy. This symbol is standing as inspiration for his friends to rally around his recovery. 

“The thumbs up thing started when I was a kiddo - with me and then he carried it on with Murphy,” Taylor said. 

Smith is a private person and Taylor has been reluctant to allow his story to be shared in the media. He is a writer and a thinker who pens words of wisdom through his own Facebook page. Taylor has been able to encourage his fans through sharing some of his favorite passages.

“One of Daddy’s favorites, listen to these words since my dad can’t share them with you all today -‘I’ve been better, I’ve been worse, I’ve chased after pretty girls; Seen a couple places that I never thought I’d see; I’ve walked into harder times, I’ve walked out the other side; It seems like you ed up getting what you need; Yeah, looking down from 30,000 feet; Life’s been good to me.’” Taylor posted on her update,...
